Trends, Challenges and Applications of Ultrafast VECSELs
Semiconductor laser are extremely versatile laser systems offering
wavelength-tunability, high-power, and the potential for cost-efficient mass-
production. Profiting from these qualities, ultrafast Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VECSELs) have emerged in the last decades as a unique source of GHz-repetition rate femto-second pulses. In this presenation I will present an overview of the technology and its state-of-the-art as well as potential future directions
About The Speaker
Martin Saraceno was born in Dessau, Germany, in 1979. He received the Diploma in physics and the Ph.D. degree, both from ETH Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland, in 2007 and 2011, respectively. He was a Researcher with Cyber Laser, Inc., Tokyo, Japan, from 2012 to 2013, and a Senior Scientist with the Time and Frequency Laboratory, University of Neuchatel, Neuchatel, Switzerland, from 2013 to 2016. From 2016 to 2018, he has been a Researcher with the Photonics and Terahertz Technology Chair, Ruhr University Bochum, Bochum, Germany, and since end of 2018 he has been a Researcher at the Photonics and Ultrafast Laser Science Chair, also at the Ruhr University Bochum.
