New book “Optical Tweezers – Principles and Applications” by Dr. Giovanni Volpe

Dr. Giovanni Volpe Bilkent University faculty member of Physics at the Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology and UNAM has recently co-authored a new book “Optical Tweezers – Principles and Applications“ published by Cambridge University Press. The book addresses the broad field of optical trapping and manipulation in a comprehensive and organic way.

Combining state-of-the-art research with a strong pedagogic approach, this text provides a detailed and complete guide to the theory, practice and applications of optical tweezers. In-depth derivation of the theory of optical trapping and numerical modelling of optical forces are supported by a complete step-by-step design and construction guide for building optical tweezers, with detailed tutorials on collecting and analysing data. Also included are comprehensive reviews of optical tweezers research in fields ranging from cell biology to quantum physics. The book will serve as the textbook for the upcoming course on “Optical trapping and optical manipulation” (PHYS464/PHYS564) which will be offered by Dr. Volpe in the Spring 2016 semester.
