Bilkent University UNAM faculty member Asst. Prof. Necmi Bıyıklı, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) faculty member Assoc. Prof. Bilge Yıldız, and Bilkent University UNAM post-doctoral researcher Dr. Mehmet Yılmaz have been awarded an MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) Global Seed Fund (GSF) grant.
Bilkent University and MIT research teams will be using this seed funding for their project titled “Dynamic Probing of Strain Dependent Electronic and Ionic Transport Properties in Oxides for Energy and Information Technologies”.
MISTI-GSF program enables participating teams from MIT to collaborate with international peers, either at MIT or abroad, with the aim of developing and launching joint research projects. Since 2008, the program has awarded over $9.6 million to more than 463 projects. Proposals are jointly submitted by MIT and international research groups. Funds are intended to be used during the initial phase of developing an international collaboration for cutting-edge research.
In their collaborative project, Drs. Bıyıklı and Yılmaz bring in the expertise to induce and characterize the strain in nanoscale functional materials dynamically over a large strain range, while Dr. Yıldız brings in the knowledgebase and expertise on the transition metal oxide materials and their transport properties for energy conversion and information storage technologies.
