Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center\u2019s (UNAM) Asst. Prof. Mustafa Ordu has been named among 20 finalists worldwide in the 2026 Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) program organized by Junior Chamber International (JCI), earning him the opportunity to represent T\u00fcrkiye in the world final. Ordu is also one of three finalists worldwide in the Scientific and Technological Development category. In addition to the evaluation process, public voting will play an important role in determining the category winner. Voting will remain open until August 26, 2026.<\/p>\n
In 2025, Asst. Prof. Mustafa Ordu received the TOYP T\u00fcrkiye \u2014 Ten Outstanding Young Persons of T\u00fcrkiye award in the Scientific and Technological Development category for his work on fiber-based sensors, self-powered smart fiber systems, and wearable health technologies. At UNAM, Ordu develops innovative technologies that use piezoelectric and triboelectric fibers to monitor human movement and physiological data in real time. His research has been published in leading international scientific journals in the field, including Small<\/em>, Advanced Fiber Materials<\/em>, and ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces<\/em>.<\/p>\n Following his education at Istanbul Technical University, Mustafa Ordu continued his academic work in Japan, the United States, and France. Bringing this international research experience back to T\u00fcrkiye in 2019, he established his research laboratory within Bilkent UNAM\u2019s advanced research infrastructure and multidisciplinary research environment. Ordu and his team focus on hollow-core optical fibers, piezoelectric and triboelectric fibers, and wearable technologies, to develop fiber technologies that can both harvest energy from human motion and function as sensors. These next-generation wearable systems can operate without an external power source, enabling applications for real-time health monitoring. Ordu\u2019s research also includes the monitoring of heart rate, respiration, vascular elasticity, and various physiological parameters, as well as gait analysis and the tracking of movement disorders.<\/p>\n
