{"id":1350,"date":"2020-09-10T08:57:25","date_gmt":"2020-09-10T05:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/unam\/?p=1350"},"modified":"2020-09-10T10:57:15","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T07:57:15","slug":"prof-akkaya-receives-academy-of-pharmacy-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unam.bilkent.edu.tr\/en\/2020\/09\/10\/prof-akkaya-receives-academy-of-pharmacy-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Akkaya Receives Academy of Pharmacy Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Prof. Engin Umut Akkaya of the Department of Chemistry and UNAM has received the Turkish Association of Pharmacists (TEB) Academy of Pharmacy\u2019s highest award, given to recognize \u201ceminently distinguished achievement.\u201d This is the first time the Academy has presented this award to a chemist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Akkaya\u2019s work in radically transforming the photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer has received worldwide attention and been featured on the covers of leading scientific journals. Photodynamic therapy has been a promising modality for treating cancer; however, for optimal efficiency, the tumor tissues being targeted must have normal oxygen levels, and the light used for excitation must be able to reach the tumor region.
