{"id":1452,"date":"2020-09-10T11:50:27","date_gmt":"2020-09-10T08:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/unam\/?p=1452"},"modified":"2021-09-29T16:50:54","modified_gmt":"2021-09-29T13:50:54","slug":"kelestemur-awarded-spie-optics-and-photonics-education-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unam.bilkent.edu.tr\/en\/2020\/09\/10\/kelestemur-awarded-spie-optics-and-photonics-education-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Kelestemur awarded SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA \u2013 21 May 2015 \u2013 Yusuf Kelestemur has been awarded a 2015 Optics and Photonics\u00a0Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics for his potential contributions to\u00a0the field of optics, photonics or related field.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Kelestemur is pursuing his PhD degree under the supervision of Professor Hilmi\u00a0Volkan Demir in the Department of Material Science and Nanotechnology at the\u00a0Bilkent University (Turkey). He is working on the colloidal synthesis of\u00a0semiconductor nanocrystals having different dimensionalities and architectures for\u00a0next\u2010generation colloidal optoelectronic device applications including highperformance\u00a0nanocrystal\u2010based light\u2010emitting diodes and lasers. Kelestemur has coauthored<br \/>numerous conference papers and 15 scientific journals including Advanced<br \/>Materials, ACS Nano, Small and Nanoscale.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In 2015 SPIE awarded $353,000 in education and travel scholarships to 126\u00a0outstanding individuals, based on their potential contribution to optics and\u00a0photonics, or a related discipline. Award\u2010winning applicants were evaluated,\u00a0selected and approved by the SPIE Scholarship Committee, Chaired by SPIE\u00a0volunteer Cristina Solano.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Through 2014, SPIE has distributed over $4.5 million dollars in individual scholarships.
