Prof. B\u00fclend Orta\u00e7 at Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) is actively engaged in research and development efforts for the advancement of next-generation active and passive fibers and combiners. Their research aims to bring innovation to the next generation of fiber technology and has recently been published on the front cover of <em>Advanced Optical Materials<\/em>. Dr. Ali Karatutlu, another member of the Orta\u00e7 Research Group and the Innovation Team, served as the lead author of the journal article. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Timu\u00e7in Emre Tabaru of Sivas University of Science and Technology has also participated as a co-author of this work.<\/p>\n<p>The research entitled \u201cLow-Temperature Synthesis of Silicon Oxynitride-Doped Si for Tunable Bragg Gratings Homogeneously Deposited on Si, SiO<sub>2<\/sub>, and Borosilicate Substrates and the tip of SM and PM Optical Fibers\u201d presents a significant advancement in the field through the adaptation of silicon oxynitride-doped silicon synthesis to fiber optic technology.<\/p>\n<p>The range of applications that can be achieved through the synthesis of this novel molecule, which can serve as a coating in fiber optic technology includes enhanced light reflection and a remarkable potential for increased detection capabilities. This groundbreaking technology extends its application beyond fiber to encompass large surfaces like glass and silicon, offering significant innovation prospects for the defense, telecommunications, glass, electronics, and biomedical sectors.<\/p>\n<p>UNAM proudly possesses the only optical fiber drawing tower in Turkey. In 2020, after a decade of dedicated research and development, Bilkent University UNAM achieved a significant milestone by successfully producing Turkey&#8217;s first national active fiber.
