Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) recently hosted Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Kemal Memi\u015fo\u011flu, Deputy Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. \u015euay\u0131p Birinci, President of the Turkish Health Institutes (T\u00dcSEB) Prof. Dr. \u00dcmit Kervan, and their accompanying delegation.<\/p>\n
During the visit on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, UNAM Board Chair and Bilkent University Rector Prof. Dr. K\u00fcr\u015fat Aydo\u011fan, UNAM Director Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir, UNAM Infrastructure Manager \u00d6zg\u00fcr Y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131m, and UNAM Asst. Prof. Fatih \u0130nci provided a briefing on the current status of the research and development project being conducted at UNAM with T\u00dcSEB\u2019s support.<\/p>\n
At the meeting, it was emphasized that T\u00dcSEB had selected UNAM as the center to implement this project, based on its national identity, its advanced R&D expertise, and scientific achievements to date, in line with its goal of bringing high technology to T\u00fcrkiye. With its cutting-edge research infrastructure, UNAM was recognized as a pioneering hub in healthcare technologies. One such example is the innovative wireless and portable healthcare platforms being developed with T\u00dcSEB\u2019s support, as was highlighted by UNAM Director Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir. He stated that real-time analyte detection in tissue fluids is poised to be seamlessly integrated into daily life in the near future as a monitoring device.<\/p>\n
The project involves the development of a biosensor and an integrated hardware and software application, designed as a dual-component medical device. Positioned as a strategic research initiative, this endeavor not only introduces an innovative alternative to existing healthcare solutions but also serves as a technology platform that will enable the development of various biosensors in the future. As the project advances towards the clinical research phase, it is expected to make a significant contribution to Turkey\u2019s goal of making a breakthrough in healthcare technologies.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, which also addressed strategic technologies and collaborations in the healthcare sector, Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Kemal Memi\u015fo\u011flu underscored the critical role of Turkey\u2019s Productive Healthcare Model, aimed at reducing foreign dependency and enhancing strategic independence in the sector. He emphasized the importance of supporting domestic production in critical healthcare products such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and healthcare equipment.<\/p>\n
