{"id":8675,"date":"2024-04-15T10:59:37","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T07:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unam.bilkent.edu.tr\/en\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=8675"},"modified":"2024-04-15T11:00:32","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T08:00:32","slug":"the-path-to-no-drift-sensors-with-on-chip-stress-calibration","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/unam.bilkent.edu.tr\/en\/event\/the-path-to-no-drift-sensors-with-on-chip-stress-calibration\/","title":{"rendered":"The path to no-drift sensors with on-chip stress calibration"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Erdin\u00e7 Tatar<\/h5>\n<p>Bilkent University &#8211; Electrical and Electronics Engineering, UNAM<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The path to no-drift sensors with on-chip stress calibration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Navigation is vital for the future of autonomous mobility.\u00a0 Data from multiple sensing modalities (GPS, camera, radar, \u2026) are fused in navigation.\u00a0 Among these sensors, inertial navigation is error-proof and can fit into every car and smartphone if a low-cost, no-drift sensor is invented.\u00a0 Drift is a major problem for inertial sensors, limiting their utilization in navigation applications.\u00a0 Inertial sensor data, i.e., acceleration and rotation, is integrated to find the position, and drift leads to unacceptable position error over time.\u00a0 The common drift suppression approach is temperature calibration, but various works have shown that it cannot eliminate the drift.\u00a0 The drift mechanisms are complex and cannot be fully characterized by simple temperature measurements.\u00a0 So, I propose an on-chip stress calibration approach that directly correlates with the drift. We integrate multiple stress sensors and the inertial sensor on the same chip and achieve state of the art drift performance with on-chip stress sensing.\u00a0 Functional calibration requires deep understanding of the device and temperature effects.\u00a0 I will present our drift solution approach, which includes sensor and electronics design, analytical modeling, and combining temperature and stress measurements.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9167\" src=\"https:\/\/unam.bilkent.edu.tr\/tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/erdinc-tatar-abstract.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1111\" height=\"448\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>About speaker<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Erdinc Tatar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University.\u00a0 He is also affiliated with National Nanotechnology Center of Turkey (UNAM).\u00a0 He received B.S. and M.S. degrees (with high honors) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey, and Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, in 2008, 2010, and 2016 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>He was a Graduate Research Assistant with Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems Research and Applications Center, METU, and with Carnegie Mellon University from 2008 to 2011, and 2012 to 2016, respectively.\u00a0 From 2016 to 2019 he worked as a MEMS Design Engineer responsible for the development of next generation gyroscopes in Analog Devices, Inc., Wilmington, MA.\u00a0 His research interests include MEMS sensors (specifically Inertial and Gas sensors), microfabrication and packaging technologies, and readout and control electronics for MEMS sensors.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Tatar is a recipient of International Fellowship for Outstanding Researchers by TUBITAK, Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Fellowship and European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant by the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9166\" src=\"https:\/\/unam.bilkent.edu.tr\/tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/erdinc-tatar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1754\" height=\"2480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Erdin\u00e7 Tatar Bilkent University &#8211;
