A graphene-like silica allotrope predicted by UNAM researchers

Prof. Salim Çıracı and his team predicted that stable monolayers of Silica (SiO2) is possible. Calculations show exotic electronic and physical properties.

Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) awards successful young scientist prize every year to distinguished young scientists that produced high quality research in natural and social sciences and engineering. For 2013-2014, five UNAM researchers are awarded the prize. Mehmet Z. Baykara and Bülend Ortaç are awarded in the field of materials science and nanotechnology, Ali Kemal Okyay in electronics engineering, Urartu Özgür Şafak Şeker in bioengineering, and Giovanni Volpe in physics. We congratulate all the laureates!
