UNAM researchers Asst. Prof. Dr. Engin Durgun, Res. Asst. Prof. Dr. Urartu Ozgur Safak Seker and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Okyay each received the FABED Eser Tümen Outstanding Young Scientist Award of 2015 in the fields of physics, biology and physics, respectively. Granted each year to researchers under the age of 40 who have chosen to establish their careers in Turkey, the Eser Tümen awards aim to recognize mid-career scientists who have made major contributions to the country’s academic prowess.
Dr. Durgun won the Eser Tümen award for his research in the area of 2-dimensional materials, cement reactivity and cyclodextrin inclusion complexes, while Dr. Şeker received his award for his contributions to synthetic biology-enabled systems and bionanotechnology. Lastly, Dr. Okyay was awarded for his work on atomic layer deposition and its optoelectronic device applications.
