Dr. Serim Kayacan İlday of Bilkent University-UNAM and her team’s work is featured on the cover of Nature Physics October Issue and the journal’s website’s banner. This issue has been dedicated to the journal’s 15th anniversary. Notably, an article published in this issue highlighted the past and present editors’ favorite articles, including Dr. Ilday and her team’s article, which appeared in the journal’s April Issue this year.
Dr. Ilday is a multi- and inter-disciplinary researcher focusing on self-assembly, complexity, far from equilibrium systems, and nonlinear and stochastic dynamics. She is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology & National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) at Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, which she joined in December 2017. Before that, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Physics Department at Bilkent University. She received her Ph.D. from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2014. She is the recipient of several awards and recognitions, including Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) in 2020, the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant (StG) in 2019, and L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science in 2018. Her research has been published in renowned journals, including Nature Physics, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, and Nano Letters.
