Dr. Ayça Arslan Ergül was awarded support from Health Institutes of Turkey’s (TÜSEB) 2022-A-01 Project Call for her project entitled “Slowing Cell Division and Growth in Glioblastoma Cells by Senesens Induction.”
Existing therapies developed for glioblastoma, one of the most debilitating cancer types with a short life expectancy after diagnosis, are aimed at prolonging patients’ life expectancies. The aim of Dr. Ayça Arslan Ergül’s research project, however, is to force glioblastoma cells to age, thereby causing them to lose their properties including cellular growth and proliferation. The project will be using zebrafish (Danio rerio) to study glioblastoma cell lines and is expected to be concluded within a period of 10-12 months. If the project’s experiments verify its hypothesis, it will make a significant contribution to the current literature surrounding the life expectancy of patients with glioblastoma.
