Bilkent University UNAM Director and Chair of the Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (MSN) Graduate Program, Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir, along with his research team, published a scientific article entitled “‘Giant’ Colloidal Quantum Well Heterostructures of CdSe@CdS Core@Shell Nanoplatelets from 9.5 to 17.5 Monolayers in Thickness Enabling Ultra-High Gain Lasing” in the prestigious scientific journal Small.
Professor Demir’s research demonstrates that colossal colloidal quantum well heterostructures, composed of CdSe@CdS nanoplatelets ranging from 9.5 to 17.5 monolayers in thickness, present an outstanding platform for thin-film lasers and laser applications that can achieve remarkably high optical efficiency. The attained material gain coefficient marks more than a 10-fold increase in the previously reported levels for colloidal quantum dots, signaling a significant stride forward in fostering ultra-high optical efficiency for next-generation laser applications.
