The Nanotechnology Workshop was held on October 2-3, 2024, with the support of the Netherlands Innovation Network Turkey, in collaboration with Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM), and the University of Twente’s MESA+ Institute. The two-day workshop brought together leading researchers from the Netherlands and Turkey, featuring presentations, panels, and lab tours in fields including metamaterials, nanoelectronics, photonics, and nanobiotechnology.
Notable participants from the University of Twente in the Netherlands included Prof. Hans Hilgenkamp, Prof. Harold Zandvliet, Prof. Dr. Willem L. Vos, Asst. Prof. Laura Graña Suarez, Prof. Dr. Muharrem Bayraktar, Prof. Dr. David Marpaung, Prof. Dr. Pepijn W.H. Pinkse, and Dr. Ivana Qianqi Lin. From Turkey, the workshop welcomed participants from Bilkent University UNAM, including Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir, Assoc. Prof. Engin Durgun, Asst. Prof. Talip Serkan Kasırga, Asst. Prof. Cüneyt Şahin, Asst. Prof. Hasan Yılmaz, Asst. Prof. İbrahim Sarpkaya, Assoc. Prof. Selim Hanay, Asst. Prof. Wonmi Ahn, and Assoc. Prof. Yegan Erdem. Additionally, Abdullah Gül University’s Prof. Dr. Evren Mutlugün, Sabancı University’s Prof. Dr. İnanç Adagideli, and Koç University’s Assoc. Prof. Sedat Nizamoğlu also contributed to the workshop.
The workshop marked an important step in establishing strong scientific ties between the two countries and developing innovative collaborations in the field of nanotechnology. Comprehensive presentations were made on the current landscape of nanotechnology in both the Netherlands and Turkey. In-depth sessions on nanomaterials, optics/photonics, and micro-nanoelectronics were also held. Moreover, case studies of successful collaborations and focused group discussions provided participants with opportunities to devise new strategies and explore opportunities for collaboration.
