The TUZ/SALT Exhibition, organized by Bilkent University Department of Communication and Design with the support of the National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM), is bringing science and art together. Curated by Berlin-based photographer Jean Molitor and Prof. Andreas Treske, Chair of the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University, the exhibition featured works by researchers and students, including striking images obtained using advanced technological devices at UNAM (National Nanotechnology Research Center).
The exhibition combined discoveries made during exploration trips to Türkiye’s Çankırı Salt Cave and Salt Lake with artistic interpretations. Using UNAM’s Material Microscope, the intricate microstructure of salt was captured in detail, while FIB (Focused Ion Beam) technology produced impressive visuals at the micron and nanoscale. Additionally, salt samples collected from the cave and the lake were displayed as part of the exhibition.
As curator of the exhibition, Professor Andreas Treske emphasized the event’s intention to highlight the aesthetic potential of salt with a minimalist approach. The various forms of salt, from the delicate crystallizations on glass surfaces to microscopic details, offered visitors a journey that was both scientific and artistic.
Supported by the Embassy of Germany in Ankara, a portion of the exhibition is to be displayed at UNAM in the coming months.
