Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center’s (UNAM) Dr. Sezin Galioğlu Özaltuğ has published a scientific article entitled “Ultrafast Laser Synthesis of Zeolites” in the prestigious journal Advanced Materials.
Supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), this groundbreaking research introduces an “ultrafast laser synthesis” technique that marks a significant advancement in the production of zeolites—crystalline porous materials widely used in applications ranging from environmental gas capture and catalysis to gas separation and drug delivery.
Dr. Galioğlu Özaltuğ and her team successfully replaced conventional hydrothermal synthesis methods, which typically require days, with a laser-based process that enables energy delivery with extraordinary spatial and temporal precision to reduce synthesis time to hours and greatly enhance control. This innovative approach not only makes zeolite production more efficient and flexible, but it also sets the stage for a new generation of laser-assisted synthesis technologies. The study offers a promising pathway for time- and energy-efficient material development, paving the way for future breakthroughs in materials science.
