Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) hosted the Advanced Technologies and Strategic Collaboration Workshop on June 8, 2026. The event brought together representatives from the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) and Türkiye’s leading defense companies to explore emerging technology opportunities and strengthen strategic collaboration.
The workshop was attended by Ms. Zübeyde Arslanoğlu, Head of the R&D and Technology Management Department at SSB, along with senior executives and experts representing various technology divisions within the Presidency of Defence Industries. Representatives from ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TEI, and TUSAŞ also participated in the event.
In his opening remarks, UNAM Director Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan provided an overview of the center’s world-class research infrastructure, strategic vision, and technological development capabilities supporting the defense sector. He highlighted UNAM’s interdisciplinary research approach, expertise in advanced technologies, and innovative solutions developed to address the evolving needs of the defense sector.
The program featured a comprehensive overview of UNAM’s ongoing research activities and technological capabilities that aligned with SSB’s priorities for technological advancement. UNAM principal investigators and researchers, including Assoc. Prof. Talip Serkan Kasırga, Dr. Sezin Galioğlu Özaltuğ, Asst. Prof. Gürkan Yeşilöz, Dr. Ayça Arslan, Dr. Ahmad Rashad Elsebahy, Asst. Prof. Mustafa Ordu, Elif Baktır, and Levent Alkışlar, all delivered presentations, highlighting cutting-edge research in advanced materials, battery technologies, biotechnology, quantum technologies, RF systems, acoustic technologies, display technologies, infrared and visible-spectrum sensing, and artificial intelligence.
The event also included interactive discussion and evaluation sessions, during which participants explored potential opportunities for collaboration between UNAM’s advanced research ecosystem and SSB’s strategic technological priorities. Discussions focused on accelerating joint R&D initiatives and advancing high-value technologies that can address the evolving needs of the defense industry while contributing to Türkiye’s technological competitiveness and innovation capacity.
