Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) Director and Chair of the Materials Science and Nanotechnology Graduate Program Prof. Hilmi Volkan Demir and his research team recently published their work, “Suppressed Auger Heating of Hot Carriers in Cu-Doped Colloidal Quantum Wells,” in Advanced Science.

Prof. Demir and his team demonstrated that copper doping in CdSe colloidal quantum wells can effectively suppress Auger heating, which slows the cooling of high-energy carriers. The study showed that the energy states introduced into the material through copper doping enable carriers to lose their energy much more rapidly and that this effect is maintained even at high excitation densities. By enabling more effective control of carrier dynamics while preserving the fundamental structural and optical properties of the quantum wells, the work is significant for improving the performance of optoelectronic systems operating under high excitation densities.
