The mid-term panel of the 1004 – Center of Excellence Support Program was held at UNAM on Thursday, March 9th. The panel was supported by TÜBİTAK and led by the National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM), the program manager of the A1-PLATFORM.
During the panel, audience members were updated on the current status of technical projects being conducted by the executive organizations of the A1-PLATFORM that are linked by their national and superordinate goals. These include projects ran by the leading industrial organizations of Turkey—TUSAŞ, Vestel, and Şişecam—as well as some of the most competent Turkish academic institutions—including Bilkent University, Eskişehir Technical University, Abdullah Gül University, and TOBB ETÜ University.
The panel highlighted how a significant contribution has been made to Turkey’s patent portfolio in a short amount of time. In the past two years, the executive institutions of the TÜBİTAK 1004-Center of Excellence Support Program have been working unremittedly and in close cooperation on twelve technical projects. As a result, the A1-1004 Platform has already produced two international patent registrations, eighteen international patent applications, and seventeen national patent applications stemming from these projects.
In addition, the panel was proud to report on the publication of nineteen different international articles as a result of the research and development being carried out as part of the program. These resulted in not only a significant contribution to the publicity of Turkey in the international academic field, but also representation in the international arena in the research areas of nanomaterials, transparencies, structurals, avionic displays, and high-tech glass .
The A1-1004 Program aims to ensure that all institutions included in the platform develop unique products in their own sectors of advanced R&D studies, aiming for common and versatile benefits at every stage. The panel presented an array of high technologies developed in the TÜBİTAK 1004-Center of Excellence Support Program that, while currently at readiness levels of 3-5, are aiming to soon reach readiness levels of 6-9. The A1-Platform continues to work with the aim of developing these technologies for domestic and national production purposes while making a direct contribution to Turkey’s economy. These products are being brought to life as valuable, high-tech products in various sectors, especially in the defense industry and in the form of durable consumer products, electronics, and glass.
