With a mission to provide Turkey with an internationally competitive R&D capacity and training capability in the fields of nanoscience/nanotechnology, biotechnology/nanobiotechnology, materials science/engineering, and related domains, Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) played a key role in organizing the Singapore-Turkey Materials Science and Engineering Workshop, took place July 12-14.
The workshop, organized through the collaborative efforts of Bilkent University UNAM, the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and Koç University, brought together a distinguished gathering of over 250 scientists, researchers, and students. Throughout the event, eminent speakers from diverse fields shared cutting-edge insight and advancements in materials science and related domains. Notably, the University of Singapore’s esteemed guest speakers included the 2010 Nobel laureate in Physics, Prof. Konstantin Novoselov, alongside Prof. Antonio Castro-Neto, Prof. Chwee Teck, and Prof. Barbaros Özyılmaz. Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir from Bilkent University UNAM also gave a talk on materials science. Moreover, distinguished speakers from Bilkent University UNAM included Assoc. Prof. Engin Durgun, Asst. Prof. İbrahim Sarpkaya, and Asst. Prof. T. Serkan Kasırga.
The Singapore-Turkey Workshop on Materials Science and Engineering created a valuable opportunity to foster advanced research collaboration between Turkey and Singapore in materials science and related fields. This event, which is planned to be held annually, aims to make significant contributions to not just the two participating countries, but also their respective regions.
