Asst. Prof. İbrahim Sarpkaya from Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) recently published an article in the prestigious journal npj 2D Materials and Applications, published by Nature Publishing Group.
The research entitled “Prolonged Dephasing Time of Ensemble of Moiré-Trapped Interlayer Excitons in WSe2-MoSe2 Heterobilayers” investigates the effects of moiré patterns formed in the heterostructures of two-dimensional materials on the coherence properties of interlayer excitons. Asst. Prof. Sarpkaya and his research group found that interlayer excitons can have prolonged dephasing times up to fivefold compared to delocalized excitons when they are trapped in these moiré potentials. The prolonged values of dephasing times are of significant importance for the applications of quantum information science and the development of two-dimensional material-based nanolasers.
