Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center’s (UNAM) Asst. Prof. Abdullah Demir recently published his research entitled “Single-mode Quasi PT-symmetric Laser with High Power Emission” in Light: Science & Applications (LSA).
Dr. Demir’s groundbreaking research successfully developed a cutting-edge, electrically-pumped, edge-emitting laser chip with exceptional capabilities. This remarkable chip boasts a large-area design, operates in a single-mode configuration, and exhibits quasi PT-symmetry. With an impressive output power of 400 mW and a beam quality comparable to narrow waveguide laser devices, it sets a new benchmark for performance. Notably, this innovative laser chip operates efficiently at room temperature, eliminating the need for additional cooling mechanisms. By addressing the long-standing challenge of maintaining beam quality while increasing the width of the laser waveguide, this research opens up exciting possibilities for creating novel device architectures. It presents a promising avenue for the advancement of realistic solutions in the field of semiconductor lasers, which are widely prevalent in modern technology.
