Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center’s (UNAM) Dr. Gürkan Yeşilöz and his team recently published their research in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. The journal is published by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and features significant research conducted in the fields of materials science and engineering.
Dr. Yeşilöz and his team’s research is entitled “A Microfluidics Assisted Double-Barrelled Nano-Bioconjugate Synthesis Introducing Aprotinin as a New Moonlight Nano-carrier Protein: Tested Towards Physiologically Relevant 3D-Spheroid Models” which introduces nano-drug carriers utilizing the protein, Aprotinin, to offer a groundbreaking approach to cancer treatment. Aprotinin serves as both an anti-metastatic carrier and a “moonlighting” protein to more efficiently deliver the cytotoxic drug, doxorubicin, directly to cancer cells. These nano-bioconjugates improve cellular uptake in cancer cells while sparing healthy cells from toxicity; thus enhancing drug efficacy and diminishing side effects. This innovative treatment strategy presents a hopeful alternative in cancer therapy while also demonstrating significant potential for clinical applications.
