Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center’s (UNAM) Dr. Gurkan Yesiloz has recently had his research on advancing a new acoustic-integrated microfluidics technology, which showcases a crucial role in generating vigorous flow streaming for efficient mixing and nano-bio-material production—featured on the cover of the prestigious scientific journal Small.
The study conducted by Dr. Yesiloz and his team, titled “A Novel Acoustic Modulation of Oscillating Thin Elastic Membrane for Enhanced Streaming in Microfluidics and Nanoscale Liposome Production” developed a novel acoustofluidic device that leverages the combined effects of vibrating trapped microbubbles and an oscillating thin elastic membrane to induce powerful acoustic microstreaming. As a proof of concept, they utilized this platform to synthesize size-tunable nanoscale liposomes, incorporating glycerol as a size regulator, with potential applications as bio-carriers in cancer treatment and vaccine therapy.
