Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center’s (UNAM) Asst. Prof. Fatih İnci has recently published his research titled “A Smart Probe for Detection of Sugar Markers for Applications in Gastrointestinal Barrier Dysfunction” in the Biosensors & Bioelectronics journal. This interdisciplinary work was conducted in multinational collaboration with researchers from Bilkent University UNAM, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC), and Stanford University.
The research aims to develop a new system that non-invasively measures sugar molecules to detect gastrointestinal (GI) barrier dysfunction. The technology provides a low-cost, highly-efficient, and portable method that enables early detection of GI permeability. The platform, developed using a boron-based sensing system to precisely measure sugar biomarkers such as lactulose, can also play a significant role in detecting GI inflammation and contribute to early diagnosis and treatment processes.
