On Thursday, October 15, 2026, Bilkent University’s National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) welcomed Prof. Dr. Okay Altun and his students from the Department of Mining Engineering at Hacettepe University’s Faculty of Engineering. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to explore UNAM’s advanced research infrastructure and learn about the academic opportunities it offers.
As part of their “Grinding Processes in Nanotechnology” course, the students toured the cutting-edge infrastructure of UNAM—comprising over 300 advanced technology devices, 87 laboratories, and two separate cleanrooms spanning a total of 856 square meters. The students were introduced to advanced characterization instruments, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) systems, gaining insights into techniques used to examine and analyze the structural properties of materials at the micro- and nanoscale. Participants also had the opportunity to observe ongoing research activities in nanotechnology and materials science.
